Legal Disclosure

  • A Notary Public is unable to offer legal advice.

  • Ensure that all of your documents are filled in completely before the notarization appointment.

  • Whenever necessary, direct all questions to the party that drafted or requested your document(s).

Signatures

  • Please do NOT sign any of the documents until you are in the presence of a Notary Public.  

  • By law, a Notary Public must witness all documents being signed-by all parties involved.

Signers

  • All signers must be present with proper identification at the time of notarization.

  • Acceptable ID's include:

  1. Drivers License/State ID

  2. US Military ID Card

  3. Green Card

  4. US Passport

  5. Foreign Passport w/US Customs Stamp

  6. Inmate ID Card

Documents

  • Vital records such as birth, death, or marriage certificates cannot be notarized. 

  • Original documents must be presented for all Copy Certifications. 

  • Prior to notarization, understand which notary certificate you require (such as Jurat, Acknowledgment, Oath, etc.

  • Notaries are not allowed to advise which certificate to utilize.

Other

  • No ID? A signer can provide 2 credible witnesses that will swear to his/her identity. Witnesses must be 18 or older with valid ID, and cannot have a financial or vested interest in documents.

  • The name does not match ID? see above.

  • Signature Mark with "X"? 2 witnesses are necessary. One must write the signer's name by the mark and proceed to sign as a witness.
